Overview
The main beach extends north for 1.3 km from the main car park in the center of town. The southern end, called the Lagoon, is protected by reef and is good for swimming and snorkeling. There are grassy areas, a children’s playground, barbecues, toilets (disabled toilet available), change rooms, showers and a cafe. Several lookouts suit whale watching from September to November. The beach is patrolled by Surf Lifesaving in summer.
For surfers, the famous Yallingup reef break is best known for a long left-hand wave favoured by long boarders and Malibu riders and has been surfed since the 1950s. The main reef break is best with 2 to 3.5 m of swell with easterly winds. The breaks at the north end of the Yallingup reef are family friendly and suitable for beginners on small swells below 1 m.
The children’s playground is a nature-based playground that will stimulate a child’s imagination and is considered to be one of the best in the region.
Dogs are allowed at the northern end of the beach, between the Dawson Street steps and the Rabbits car park.
